From the adrenaline-fueled slopes of freestyle snowboarding to the monumental stages of strongman competitions, William Murray's journey into the realm of strength began at the ripe age of 21. Seeking to trade in the lightness of air for the solidity of muscle, he made a pivotal decision that would reshape his athletic trajectory.
Hailing from small town Cranbrook British Columbia, William discovered an unexpected passion in strongman, fueled by the revelation that his hometown hosted an amateur competition. Undeterred by his novice status, he set a audacious six-month goal to compete, marking the beginning of a transformative journey.
Embarking on his 22nd birthday, William's initiation into the world of strongman was under the watchful eye of the legendary Bryce Krawczyk, Owner of Calgary Barbell. Enduring initial setbacks, he persistently faced the crucible of competition, finishing last for three consecutive years. Unfazed, his determination only intensified.
In his fourth year of rigorous training, William made a strategic move to weight-class competitions. The switch proved fortuitous as he emerged as BC's Strongest Lightweight, earning a coveted spot at the national stage in Montreal, Quebec. Despite fierce competition, he carved his place, finishing 6th among the top athletes.
Following two years of unwavering commitment and a strategic hiatus, William, at 29, clinched the title of Canada's Strongest Lightweight. A triumphant achievement that set the stage for national records in the atlas stone over bar, circus dumbbell, and farmers carry.
Beyond brawn, William is more than sinew and steel. A highly intellectual and calculated athlete, he takes a cerebral approach to his training, proving that strength isn't just about power but also about strategy. As he gears up for the pinnacle of his career at the official Strongman Games in Charleston, West Virginia, on December 1st, 2023, William looks forward to demonstrating that being strong is synonymous with being smart.
